Yes, most High definition television's are equipped with an optical output for sound. just remember it is only for sound not video but you will be impressed with the sound quality you get out of the optical cable because with the USB cables they are built to transfer sound and high definition video signals so the sound quality is not quite the same because it concentrate more on the high definition video not as much on the sound. whereas the optical cables Only deal with the digital sound alone.
