Typically you would set this up with the blu_ray or cable channel selector connecting to the sound bar, then from there connect to the tv for visual. The only time you need the sound from the tv through optical as a source is if you are watching tv with an antenna source (RG6 connected to tv) or streaming through the tv apps. If you are using those types of content, you're likely not getting atmos anyway and optical, which can handle up to 5.1 will do fine for the content received. Don't buy a new tv just for this.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.According to the manual, Atmos only works with an HDMI cable
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would just connect the TV ARC HDMI cable to the TV's HDMI1 port. You won't be getting any Dolby Atmos sound from the TV anyway. Have your Atmos capable BD player connected to either HDMI1 or HDMI2 on the Samsung sound bar, and select that source when playing 4k Blu-rays.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would go with a new TV that has ARC HDMI for at least two reasons: 1) TV pricing has really come down and, 2) once you have the K-950 connected appropriately, you will experience sound like never before! Trust me, I had surround sound provided from a receiver before which, at the time, I thought was the way to go. Enter the K-950, mind blowing sound that seems to come at you from every direction! The movie experience is awesome and when playing your favorite tunes... it will be like your first time ever hearing them. Is this sound bar pricy- yes. Will it deliver - YES! To answer your question directly, I don't know if the optical cable connection will work for true ATMOS but when connected with ARC, please see above commentary. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello Mario, First, I believe that Dolby atoms is only available on blue ray disc ( I believe in 4k only). Dolby atomos is not broadcast through cable. Regardless, of that to answer your question . Yes you would need hdmi connection to the soundbar to listen to that format.... I hope this helps. Larry
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You do not need arc but you need hdmi into soundbar for atmos and hdmi into tv got pic arc not necessary. Atmos and all advanced codecs are not avail over optical
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Optical connection works great but Atmos will only function thru one of the HDMI connections to the SoundBar. To enable Atmos I have connected a BluRay player that supports Atmos: HDMI from BluRay to HDMI to SoundBar then HDMI out of Soundbar to HDMI in on TV. ARC is just a nice feature that enables the TV to automatically turn on the SoundBar when the TV is turned on but not required for Atmos.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have an older Sharp Aquos that doesn't have ARC HDMI. I had to use optical and I haven't had any issues with Atmos...it sounds amazing.
