I have cabinets on both sides free standing has a stand up back with clock & oven controls with touch pad A slide in stove is only the cooking surface on top no back usually a backsplash is used on wall behind slide in The manual for mine states zero clearance below cook top on sides of stove from floor up to 36 inches clearance of 30 inches minimum above cooktop except a microwave with vent fan under it then install using specs for That appliance

The slide-In ones I looked at did have panels on the sides (unlike what's stated in the link), so they could be used free standing. Just imagine a freestanding range with the raised back portion not there. Which one you would need probably depends on the type of counter top and back splash treatment you have. The 'old fashioned' (and very practical) laminated type of counter top with the 4" raised back side looks best with a freestanding range.
