Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Laurie, back lighting gets tricky, but lets give this a shot. Every lighting system has its plusses and minuses. Full array local dimming is the super-premium standard which starts with the Q80T. Edge lighting is usually next as it will give your TV a slimmer profile with plenty of brightness if proper light guides are used. Direct lit TV's are larger (thicker) and generally don't have the ability to dim sections of the screen. So if there is a picture of a moon in the middle of the screen the entire backlight has to be lit to the same intensity of the center of the screen. This technology is generally used in more affordable models in most lineups. I hope this helps. Thanks, ^Scott
