The One Connect Box or One Connect Evolution Kit as it is formally called, allows you to upgrade your TV as new Smart Technology changes, without having to buy a whole new set. At this time, you do not need a One Connect Evolution Kit for the UN65HU8550 since it is already up to date. If you bought the 2013 Samsung F9000 or S9 UHD TV, you may need it to work with certain streaming video providers such as Net Flix. Basically it allows older TVs to use HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, MHL 3.0 and the HEVC codec specifications. Supposedly, Samsung will release new One Connect Evolution kits as needed to upgrade previous model TVs to the current standards. The cost is about $400.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The One Connect box is Samsungs answer to " future proof " your tv from becoming obsolete. Instead of replacing your tv, you replace the one connect ox at a current cost of $300- $400 thus enabling your tv to perform to any newer future standards. AND that's only if the tv lasts that long. In effect, "you're paying more now so you can pay more later".
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You will no need it just get a HD cable box hook it to HDMI that it and make sure that you put it in all HD channels.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The One Connect box is the brains and connection hub of the TV. For all intents and purposes, it's a computer, but don't take that as you can treat it like a PC. All your devices will connect to the One Connect box. You will then connect the One Connect box to your TV via the provided, proprietary Samsung cable. Regarding powering the One Connect box, it is powered off of the TV from the proprietary cable. Also, your TV will not work without the One Connect box. In my opinion, it's a neat idea and may offer a way to upgrade your TV's processing power without needing to purchase an entirely new display. Time will tell if a feature like this is supported. Plus it cuts down on the number of cords running to the TV. One final note, the proprietary cable is about 9' long. Samsung has said they would release longer versions of the cable, but I could not find one on their website or from any resellers. I did not look that hard though.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, it is for compatibility with future video standards (eg, output from 4K DVD player). Wouldn't make sense to include it now as they do not yet exist. When a new standard is adopted they will (presumably) offer a box to convert from it to the input the TV currently supports.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Will be available in the future for connectivity to existing sets to provide upgrades. Some 2013 sets are coming through with this today, 2014 sets will have one available in the future.
