The 85" QN90A and QN85A are actually very similar, which is probably why their prices are so close. While most QN85A variants use an IPS-ADS panel, the 85" uses a VA, just like the QN90A. The QN85A has 1320 dimming zones, which is identical to the more expensive QN90A. Both TVs have the "Ultra Viewing Angle", which is Samsung speak for a special layer in the panel that they put on the higher end sets to improve the viewing angle. My assumption is that the QN85A and QN90A are using the same panel with the only real differences being in the speakers, case, and stand. If you put them side to side after a calibration, I would be shocked if you could tell the difference.

It's doubtful anyone would ever even want to watch anything at max brightness with 24x much less 32x. Most users will scale back their brightness lower than 24x. So, in a nutshell, it's just marketing.
