Yes on both questions, once installed it basically becomes part of your operating systems. It even asks you if you want your future downloads to go straight to it instead of the default HD.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Lrdz8: The 980 PRO is not compatible with the PS4, you will need a SATA SSD and not a M.2 SSD. It is a great option for the PS5. You can store PS5 games onto the drive. To play PS5 games, you need to copy game data from your USB extended storage drive back to your PS5 console's internal SSD storage. It’s much quicker to copy a PS5 game from USB extended storage than to re-download it. - Samsung Memory
