You can check if your ThinkPad supports a 2280 NVME M.2 SSD by typing your model number into Lenovo’s PSREF site here: https://psref.lenovo.com to know for sure. However, I’m pretty sure it all T480 ThinkPads do. You must keep in mind that the eighth generation Intel CPUs only support PCIE Gen3 so your 980 Pro will run at Gen3 speeds and not Gen4 for this reason. Considering the limitation, you may do well to consider a less expensive PCIE Gen3 SSD.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Lenovo ThinkPad T480 typically comes with an M.2 slot that supports NVMe SSDs, but it's important to note that it's PCIe Gen 3, not Gen 4. This means that while the Samsung 990 PRO SSD should physically fit and function in the T480, it won't operate at its maximum potential speed because the T480's PCIe Gen 3 interface is slower than the SSD's Gen 4 capabilities. The SSD will be backward compatible and will operate at Gen 3 speeds. So, yes, the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB SSD is compatible with the Lenovo ThinkPad T480, but it will operate at PCIe Gen 3 speeds instead of its maximum Gen 4 speeds.
