If you are installing on a motherboard that has an M.2 integrated heatsink/cover with thermal pad, then you would not need a heatsink. If you are installing in a motherboard that does not have an integrated heatsink or a gaming console, then you definitely need a heatsink.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the short answer is Yes. i recommend one. long answer, these SSDs can get up to 175F doing next to nothing, a $10 heatsink applied with a thin thermal pad in between should keep your SSD between room temperature and 125F.

The drive will work without one but will degrade it's performance some and probably shorten it's life a bit.
