It is redundant, undoubtedly. However, you are unlikely to find a Blu-ray player that does not come with "smart" capabilities. As for any benefits of the duplication, there are few. My wife likes being able to connect to Netflix via the TV without having to bring another device into the mix, thus simplifying the process. Fewer buttons to push! :)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.One advantage I can think of is if you were to use the player with a regular TV. I have a smart TV, but also have an older tv that does not have wifi/smart cabability. I use the smart Blu-ray player with the older TV.
