The item in question here is a BLU RAY PLAYER. If you're trying to play a DVD from outside the USA, it most likely won't work. However, if you're interested in watching high definition content, which is the main reason for buying a blu ray player, then you would most likely --- not always -- have no trouble watching a Blu ray disc made in Europe or Japan or wherever on this blu ray disc b/c MOST BDs are not region locked like DVDs are, which makes no sense to me, but regardless; region codes for DVDs would cease to exist if the key to playing a DVD that Hollywood didn't intend for you to buy in the first place was simply going to the store and buying a Blu ray player. Region codes exist to keep people from advance screenings of movies. In China, THE HUNGER GAMES MOCKINGJAY PART I didn't get released for months after the film was released to the US. The film was already on video by the time Chinese theaters were granted permission by the Chinese gov't to see the movie. Ticket sales would have drastically decreased if region codes didn't exist. Of course, international law has no loyalty to Hollywood, so in many places, such as England, you can buy a multi-region DVD player at the store w/o any red tape. Us Americans have the blessing and curse of birthing Hollywood. Hollywood is USA showbiz, but its a business like any other and if someone who knew nothing about retail tried telling Sam Walton that his Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner priced at $20 was a fleece to the American people, as much as he loved saying "The customer is always right" the fact of the matter is that said individual is not running Wal-Mart and would be clueless if they were hired to do so.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is not the player that needs to be region free but the dvds & blu rays. If your disks are not region 1, A1 or region free they won't play on players in the US.
