Q: QuestionI've read in various articles that this model can only achieve 2G speeds on T-Mobile. I see no mention of that here -- any truth to that?

• A:Answer I believe the 2016 version of this phone only did 2G/3G speeds - this is designated by the last letter of the model number SM-J106B. This phone is SM-J106M (verify this). Many of the sites selling used phones - mix up the models. the 2017 version is faster and supports 4G. I can not comment on the overall speed compared to more expensive phones. Searching web, reading news sites, chatting on Duo works fine. (screen is small but it fits comfortably in pocket)
