- Answer From memory, I believe you have to pay 1/2 of the first payment up front, but they have payment plans and other options depending on which carrier you go with. I would look into opening an account with the provider first if you are concerned. If I remember correctly and you are willing to stick around Best Buy does do that for you before you check out.
