Well you need some type of service to use maps and GPS. So if you don't add the tablet to your phone carrier to get service, you won't be able to use it. If you're on some type of WiFi, yes it works, but unless you're using a hot spot from someone's phone that's in the car, you won't be able to use the GPS on WiFi. Does that make sense?
