My experience is that cycling would work for spinning as you would still record the duration of activity and heart rate data. The GPS track would simply show one location using cycling, where as spinning would simply not even use the GPS. The only negative I see, is that the battery usage is increased because of the GPS utilization during spinning but it would be a negligible impact. Hope it helps.
