I never saw a place to add a Sim Card. As far as I understand, only selected carriers (ATT for example) have the ability to activate this device for LTE communications. You will need to add a device to your plan since it counts as another line, although you will keep your phone number, I think this is the reason only selected carries can be activated with this, it uses a QR code to get the same number as your phone and be activated as a separate device. I'm not sure about the military discount.
