  • QuestionDoes this soundbar work with the Samsung PN50A450 Plasma TV? If so, what would be the optimal way to do so as there is no HDMI ARC? Also, could I control my Verizon Fios STB & Fire Stick with one remote to control both including the soundbar? Thanks!

    • Answer Hi Hoops123! You may be able to adjust the HW-B550 Soundbar volume using the TV’s remote control used for the TV by adjusting the settings within the soundbar. This function can be used with IR remote controls only. Bluetooth remote controls (remote controls that require pairing) are not supported. Set the TV speaker to External Speaker to use this function. 1) Turn Off the Soundbar. 2) Push up and hold the WOOFER button for 5 seconds. Each time you push the WOOFER button up and hold it for 5 seconds, the mode switches in the following order: “Samsung-TV Remote” (Default mode), “Off-TV Remote”, “All-TV Remote”. The LED indicator status changes each time the mode is changed. Should you need further assistance, please contact Samsung Support at 1-800-SAMSUNG (ask for Soundbars). ~Samsung Solutions

  • QuestionDoes the subwoofer have a physical connection to either the input device (ex: tv) or the soundbar? Or, does the soundbar always transmit to the subwoofer wirelessly, even when not using bluetooth? I see no pictures that show the back of the subwoofer

    • Answer Hi Brian! If the video on the TV and audio from the HW-B550 Soundbar are not synchronized, press the SOUND CONTROL button on the soundbar remote, until you see AUDIO SYNC on the display. You can then set the audio delay between 0~300 milliseconds by using the Up/Down buttons. You can also try the below to minimize the delay: 1) Connect the source directly to the Soundbar’s HDMI input, then connect the Soundbar to the HDMI ARC input on the TV. 2) On the TV, set the Sound Delay level to 0. Home > Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Digital Output Audio Delay: “0” 3) Change the audio format to PCM on both the source device and the TV. Please also make sure you are running the latest firmware update which includes improved connectivity. You can update your firmware by Auto Update, using the SmartThings app, or by using a USB device. Connecting your soundbar to a TV through HDMI will provide the best audio and user experience, often eliminating any connection or delay issues you may be experiencing.     • Answer Hello DHops! As long as your soundbar is connected to your TV via HDMI ARC, you will be able to control the volume and power of your soundbar using your TVs remote. If the feature is not working, or you are not connected via HDMI, you can adjust the remote settings of the soundbar. This function can be used with IR remote controls only.   • QuestionHow do you adjust the sound so that the “voices” can be heard above background noise and music? Mostly w/ movies, I must constantly adjust volume up and down to hear dialogue. I’ve even had to use closed captioning to know what’s being said.

    • Answer Hello Ginger456! Try using Dynamic Range Control (DRC). DRC lets you apply dynamic range control to Dolby Digital tracks. With DRC turned on, loud sounds will be reduced. 1) Turn off your Soundbar. 2) While the Soundbar is off, press and hold the Sound Mode button on the remote control for 6 seconds until you see “DRC ON” shown on the display. 3) To turn off DRC, repeat steps 1 and 2 above. You can also try optimizing audio performance for your specific content by pressing the SOUND MODE button on your soundbar remote, and then selecting the desired sound effect by choosing STANDARD, SURROUND SOUND, BASS BOOST, GAME, or ADAPTIVE.     • Answer Hi there, As long as your soundbar is connected to your TV with either an optical cable or HDMI via ARC, you can control the volume and mute the soundbar using your Samsung TV's remote. 1) Use the TV remote to navigate to Settings, select Sound, and then select Sound Output on your Samsung TV. 2) Select your Samsung soundbar, and then select Close. Now you can use your TV remote to adjust volume and mute the soundbar. The soundbar should also turn on and off with the TV. By default, Samsung TV remotes should be able to control Samsung soundbars. If it isn't working, be sure the soundbar is powered on, and then press and hold the WOOFER button up until "ON - TV REMOTE" appears on the display (about 5 seconds). Next, you'll need to choose between connecting with an optical cable or an HDMI cable.
