• Hey Joe, Behind a couch or sofa is a great spot for the subwoofer or even under an end table. It does not need to be next to the sound bar and it shouldn’t be to get the best bass surround sound.

• Hi Joe, Generally if you have an area closer to you that will give you more and better bass levels that you can hear and feel. Make sure that you are not placing this subwoofer on it's side as it is not designed for this type of setup. You may experience reduced or poor quality if you place it under a couch, against a wall or on it's side. ~Samsung Solutions
