There isn't an i6 processor but assuming you mean the i5 i'll put an explanation below. the intel core series consists of three different brands of processors the i3, i5, & i7. The higher the number the better the processor in a given category of computer, for example an i7 processor with a model number ending in U is for an ultrabook or thin and light machine this i7 processor is not the same as one in a desktop or desktop replacement laptop which will end in K & HQ respectively. the easiest way to comprehend this is to compare it to BMW's cars. There is a 3 series, 5 series, & 7 series. now think of the letters U, HQ, and K as engine sizes U= four cylinder engine HQ= six cylinder and K=8 cylinder so and Intel core i3 in an ultrabook would be like the basic 3series with a four cylinder engine, an i7 in the same computer would be like throwing a turbocharger on that same engine. i hope this long winded explanation helps

There are others like the budget celeron and a mobile version usually in tablets. Now Intel has recently come out with their 6th generation "i" processors as I am guessing is what you are referring to. The 6th generation processors are supposed to be more efficient and consumes less energy than the 5th generation processors of the "i" core processor line,

It is true that the Intel processors increase in odd steps (i3, i5, i7), but you will often see "6th generation" on marketing to indicate that many new laptops have the newer generation of Intel processors in them. Also, several laptop models from different manufacturers are starting with or have the number 6 at the beginning. This doesn't indicate an i6 processor, it means that the processor is a 6th generation which is currently the newest version of processors Intel has. There is a 6th generation of the i3, i5, and i7 so you will want to make sure you read the specs to know which processors is actually being used.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There are only i3,i5 and i7 processors. i6 do not exist. Basically i7 is faster - the top of the line - but it is not always necessary to have this. The i5's are great, and there are some advantages to having an i5 over an i7. Get the 6th gen if u can, but don't get hung up on i5 or i7.

Lets break it down, Intel divides its processors into 3 main groups, namely i3, i5 and i7. I am excluding the Pentium, Celeron and Xeons in this list. The i3 is low end, i5 is middle and i7 is top. The difference between Core i5s and Core i7s is usually hyper-threading, which allows the Core to perform certain tasks faster using two threads at once. Games usually use fewer higher-clocked cores.
