There is a SIM built in but you can't change it. They do not disclose what network it's on, I don't think.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is a cellular backup for ADT alarm functionality only... Not SmartThings functionality. The cellular backup is through Verizon (maybe AT&T in some areas) it is activated when you activate ADT service and can't be used with any other SIM card. The internet connection is only through WiFi so if you have a T-Mobile hotspot, it can use that for it's internet connection however I would recommend leaving it at home because the system needs continuous internet connectivity. Regular cable/high speed internet with wifi router is by far the best choice.

Please try again later. The base station communicates with Simplisafe monitoring via cellular, and comes with T-Mobile SIM by default, although you can have them replace it with Verizon if the T-Mo signal is not reliable in your location. The sensors communicate with base station via some other type of RF, and there is no wifi used by this system (unless maybe by some newer feature I don't have like their camera?). The app (on Android at least) depends on your phone or tablet's access method like any other such app, whether wifi or cellular.
