Hi Sherry, all USB ports are compatible. So if you get a 3.0 drive it will work on both your PC and Laptop. If your laptop has 2.0 USB ports it will be a bit slower to transfer your music but it will work. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can tell by the color of the USB ports. Blue for USB 3, black is normally USB 2. The USB 3 drives are backwards compatible and can be plugged into any USB port no mater the age. Most new laptops will have USB 3, so if your desktop is USB 2, the transfer rate will be slower. Once you have the data on your USB 3 drive, the data transfer from the drive to the laptop will be very fast.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If your computer has a blue colored looking port on it, then it has a usb 3.0 port, but if you have an apple any model after 2013 will have the usb 3.0
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This flash drive works with 2.0 or 3.0 so you should be good either way. The 3.0 USB ports should be clearly marked as 3.0 and if not then you can also tell by the color inside the port. 3.0 USB port is blue.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.3.0 will work on a 2.0 connection it just wont transfer at 3.0 speed!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Unfortunately, many Lenovo laptops use black for both USB 2 and USB 3.0. and the actual symbol on the case needs a micoscope to read and you have to stand the computer on its end (breaking the power plug or mouse dongle.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Usually with USB3 the plastic thing in the middle of the USB port on your laptop is blue Or try this https://kb.iu.edu/d/aout
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Typically the 3.0 will have a blue insert on the laptop. If it has black it is most likely a 2.0.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 3.0 will work with a 2.0 system.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My understanding is that 2.0 and 3.0 refer to the speed of transfer. The size of the device is the same and therefore always usable. So anything on a 3.0 flash drive is backwards compatible to a 2.0 port just will be limited to the reduced speed. I think they use blue to distinguish 3.0 flash drives and ports.
