QuestionHow can this be legal to install inside the wall? Does it meet code in most cities? Why is it different than running an extension cord through the wall?

- Answer How can this be legal to install inside the wall? It is not directly connected (hardwired) to live power. Does it meet code in most cities? YES. Why is it different than running an extension cord through the wall? Extension cords are recommended for temporary power only as the jacket on the wire doesn't out-gas heat properly. Also the wiring conductors inside the extension cord are stranded and flexible and need to be solid strands for permanent power. The included in-wall wiring is terminated on both ends with a UL rating for in - wall use and plus into power "outside" of the wall and can be unplugged with zero risk of shock or fire.

- Answer I live in central Florida and The Geek Squad would not install the kit. I installed the two boxes and The Geek Squad ran the cables. My niece lives near Lady Lake, Fl. and her Geek Squad did the whole job, boxes and cables. Apparently you will have to ask your local Best Buy store what they will and won't do. If you are a handyman type, you would find it easy to do. The professional look it gives your TV is worth every penny.

QuestionHow does the wall plates get installed? Other legrand kits come with a drill bit. This one is square. Does it require the use of a saw? And if so does it come with directions on how to put the actually face plate into the walls/drywall?

- Answer Yes. You will need a punch saw to cut the hole for the upper and lower boxes. There is a great video on YouTube of installation that helps show how it goes together.

- Answer If you are a Totaltech member the installation is free. However, they could not install mine because my wall has a horizontal stud that blocks the wires from being pulled down the inside of the wall. They told me I needed to have a licensed electrician to do the installation.

- Answer You'll have to feed the cable through the brush plate - its easiest to work from the top down and remove the bottom wall plate so you can see a little better into the wall cavity. - Answer Yes, the kit allows for connecting power safely and according to code, in your wall. The power is ultimately supplied from your power outlet. Considering there are spikes and lows in the electrical current, and the cost of your entertainment unit, it is well worth buying a surge protector. In fact, most surge protector have insurance against damage to your equipment connected to the surge protector.

- Answer No, if you already have an outlet behind the TV, then this kit is not needed. This kit is designed for areas where a TV will be mounted, but no outlet is available. If you have cables you want to hide behind the wall, then you may want to look at something like cable access plates, item HT2004-WH-V1. - Answer this plugs directly into a surge protector for me (bottom of wall near floor). so there is no need for a separate one on the wall (behind television) as the cables are simply being run into the surge protector you have near your floor.

- Answer Yes they will but they charge to do it. They wanted $350 to install my wall mount and the cable concealment kit. $50 of that was the kit. I felt it was too expensive, so I did it myself.

- Answer This kit will work for an exterior wall. However, you may need fishtape to pull cords and cables through the opening because insulation will be in the way (and you won't want to remove the insulation as you will then have a cold/hot spot).

- Answer This kit is designed to be installed in a standard 2x4 framed wall (3 1/2" deep plus drywall depth). Assuming your walls are standard depth, you should be able to install it and run cords inside the wall just fine. - Answer Yes. Just follow the instructions. Make certain to put the tv mounting bracket on the wall first. Locate a place behind the tv between 2 studs to install the kit. Make certain that there is no plumbing in the wall (kitchen or bath on the other side), not a common wall (no neighbors on the other side) or exterior wall. Kit includes a template to make cutting the holes easier.
