Will it work with a PS4? null

NO! This will NOT work on a PS4, I am sitting in front of my PS4 now trying it and it will not accept it because it has a HUB, you want the version without a HUB! You will get an Error message that says it will not work, then you will be given a list of HDD requirements for it to work, which this drive meets, except for the Hub. I tried it plugging in and letting it do it's thing and I tried reformatting before plug in, neither work. Get the one WITHOUT the HUB. On Sony's website I believe the fine print mentions this too, which sucks, plus they have a disclaimer that not all hdd will work. Sucks after Spending so much.

After I tried everything to use this with my fully updated 12/12/2020 PS4 Pro Star Wars edition, I went back on Best Buy's website to read deeper into the reviews and questions. I found the "more answers" link and every answer except the incorrect one that Best Buy conveniently put as #1 answer (probably to sell more of these), can be summed up with a simple NO. Do NOT buy this if you are looking for an external HDD for your PS4, there is NO way to make it work as a game drive. I reported the incorrect answer to this question so lets see if Best Buy removes it. Fortunately I have an old computer that is useless except it's 4TB HDD which I recently made into an external HDD that will work for my PS4 so I'll move all the data from that to this and use this 8TB HDD as my new external HDD and backup for my laptops. I still do not gain the space I needed for my PS4 but I don't have any more money to spend on this. I'm disappointed and think Best Buy should've removed that wrong answer a long time ago (it was posted 3 years ago).

It does not work with PS4. I have a PS4 with the 4.5 firmware, when trying to format the device I received error message CE-41899-1. After some searching on PS forums other have had this error with an external hard drive with a USB hub. I returned this hard drive for a refund.

It will work if you have the 4.5 (or higher ) system software update
