Works just fine without the motor on. My daughter has had her battery run out, and made it back home under foot power. No issues.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.In our experience: Yes, you don't have to turn it on but I don't think it would be as free-wheeling as a normal bearing-type wheel. (Also, I don't know if there is any documentation on if it could damage it that way.) You can just push it in the case it runs out of battery, or your kid is just learning until they get the hang of it.
