I picked up the bulbs today, and they are working great! I can confirm that they do work with Echo devices that have hubs, and you can leave out the included hub if you with; however, I ended up really liking the included hub. The protocol used is Zigbee. To answer your most recent question, you would need to set it to pair mode. This is done by flipping the switch several times. The light will blink a few times, which indicates that it is in pairing mode. At that point you can begin the process of adding it to Alexa app by running a discovery. Keep in mind that once you pair it to Alexa, you essentially unpair it to the Hub, which is already "pre-paired". No big deal, since you can pair it back. The process to pair back to the sengled hub is similar to how you would do with an Echo device with a hub, or if that does not work, you need to manually scan the bulb's QR code - Should the discovery fail after that, just set it back to pairing mode again like before, and this time it will work. So initially I was thinking to not use the hub, and paired the first bulb with my Echo hub. Played with it a little, then wanted to try out the sengled app. I could not get that bulb recognized by the vendor app. Curious about the features, I proceeded to use the hub on another bulb. Long story short, the software allows updating the firmware, has some color light presets, like Christmas, Halloween, & etc, So I find the software very useful for now. I've gone ahead and configured all the bulbs to the included hub, and used the skill in Alexa, which essentially looks the same as if I had paired it directly. I'm guessing that while I become more familiar, I may discover ways to configure the same functionality outside of the sengled app, and mostly no longer need it; however, right now surprisingly, I'm loving the combo of the Alexa skills (brining me the power of Alexa), and the sengled App.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Based on what I have read. It does indeed support Echo Plus hub if you decide to not use the included hub. I'm picking some up soon, and will reply back if that is not the case.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Thanks for answering my question Floyd. How do the bulbs talk to the hub?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, the hub allows the bulbs to talk/communicate with the Echo(Zigbee) device
