• Yes. I only use water in the steam tank. The mop does come with a separate handle that attaches to the mop head so you can use the same head without any steam. There is a refillable spray bottle that comes with a cleaning solution to use on hard floors with the no steam version of the mop.

• Per the users manual use plain water only, distilled water is recommended if you have very hard water. No cleaning solutions should be added.

• water, and a seperate solution. but the solution is not a requirement. just more for small cleanups.

• You can use water only. The solution is to 'aid the steam process' but I don't believe it's necessary. I have not used the solution yet and planned to use it with the dry mop for spot cleaning.

• There is an included bottle of cleaner to use with the "swiffer" type handle, and that bottle neatly fits in a cradle. I would either buy their replacement bottle or simply just refill the one included with whatever cleaner you prefer. The cleaner does NOT go in the regular steam mop.

• You can use water only but the solution or any cleaning solution helps with tougher stains. You do not need to purchase the solution.
