We use it without an app or smartphone or Alexa. We just set up a schedule (on the vacuum) and it vacuums daily. We can also manually tell it to start vacuuming by pushing a button on the top of the vacuum. The only thing we use the phone for is to get notified if it gets stuck. But this is optional.

Guess what, when I try for the app I am told not compatible with my device. I hear this is happening to a lot of customers that purchased this vacuum. Had I known that SHARK was not all that interested in getting all loose ends tied I would have purchased another vacuum. I am not impressed, this product does not do what the company claims it will do!

You can manually control the vacuum by pressing the on-board buttons.
