• Just press button and give a little push on the back it will pop right open.

• To empty the dust cup, first you would need to remove the handheld from the wand. Then you would need to remove the dust cup form the handheld by pressing the 2 dust cup release buttons at the same time and then pull out the dust cup. While holding the dust cup over a trash bin press the Empty button and pull open the door until it clicks and locks in the open position.
