With respect to the power requirements of the video doorbell: Standard doorbells typically get power from a panel-box mounted step down transformer that runs by low voltage wire (18 gauge 2 conductor insulated) to the door bell spring-loaded switch. The output voltage from the transformer is a stepped-down 16-18 volts (depending upon the AC line voltage which fluctuates from 117 - 120 volts-- and is AC (alternating current). The device uses this existing power source and converts the AC to DC (Direct Current) internally, which is needed to operate it.
