If I don't get an answer before my washer delivery later this week, I'll have one on that day! I DID note your question is about the WASHER not the dryer. I too am only buying a washer, and this kit was recommended in my cart. Didn't notice until now, that it's called a DRYER kit. Hopefully, the answer is the name is misleading: it is required for the steam feature, whether it's the washer or the dryer that has it.
