A hammer valve or arrestor is needed on water fed appliances such as dishwashers and washer machines. They are needed if pipes that feed the appliance have a loud " banging" sound when the water is called from the appliance. They reduce pressure build up on the pipe water supply. They can be purchased at your local hardware store or Home Depot for the do-it-yourselfers or a plumber can install.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sometimes, particularly with a high pressure water supply, When the dishwasher solenoid (water valve) closes an objectionable loud knock or "hammer' is heard. An arrestor can be installed in the water supply line to dampen or quiet that. For a sink or dishwasher it is a few inch long piece within a half inch piece of copper tubing that may be installed into a "T" fitting in the water line.
