Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It keeps it's shape when it is empty. The sewing and sides are well put together and the bag likes being in the shape it was made to be. It is not stiff like plastic, but it does hold it's shape similar to a backpack. The bag can be squished and folded into a smaller bag or luggage pocket for storage if needed, so it is still flexible and will not break if rolled up like a sleeping bag. The material on the outside is similar to canvas jeans, not blue jeans. It is a fine woven material that does not fray. The inside is has a thin smooth durable cloth, similar to the inside of luggage, and this thin material covers over the 1/4 inch thick padding all around the bag.
