Yes outside gets extremely hot.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The way the solo stove functions and recirculating the air back in, which increases the heat, the outer part did get really hot. The vents and the added heat is what causes there to be little to no smoke and what there is shots straight up. If the outside of the solo stove is well ventilated, should not be an issue, but if enclosed/ surrounded, I could envision there being a problem. Solo stove gets really hot and need to cool down before moving. So hot that the oils from your fingers can leave fingerprints permanently "etched" into it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I do not recommend. The solo stove gets very hot. Buy their surround enclosure. It acts like a table and works well, well made, keeps kids, dogs and adults from getting too close!
