The price is technically the same as the first generation. Sonos raised the prices on all of their products last week...so the new price for this Beam reflects that. This Beam has a more powerful processor vs. the original and can play sound in Dolby Atmos. The original Beam does not.

But where this version of Beam really shines is the Audio decoders that are built in. This version of Beam supports DD Plus and others that are super important. Below is a pasted from their website: Beam Gen 1: Sonos Beam plays audio from PCM stereo and Dolby Digital sources. Beam Gen 2: Stereo PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos (Dolby Digital Plus), Dolby Atmos*, Dolby TrueHD*, Dolby Atmos (True HD)*, Multichannel PCM*, Dolby Multichannel PCM* (*HDMI eARC connection required.) The Sonos app's Now Playing screen will display what type of audio is being decoded. This upgrade is huge. Even Bose 900 does not support these formats. You will finally be able to listen to the dialogue in Netflix, Disney Plus, ETC without the need of using a converter in between your soundbar and TV.
