“So I do a lot of lawn mowing and I want something that cancels out the loud engine drone. Is these, Bose QC 35, or Beats Studio better? I'm leaning towards Bose but the boring looks of it turn me off just enough to consider Beats or Sony 1000x.”

Please try again later.definitely the sonys, the bose while technically having marginally better active noise cancelling, sacrifice passive noise cancelling (noise prevented by just wearing the headphones) to be lighter and potentially more comfortable over long periods of use then other noise cancelling headphones. having owned both and tried them the sony's are far better for the type of noice cancelling you are looking for as they block more noise passively then the bose and the active noise cancelling is on par in most frequencies if not slightly better for some then others. they are also built very well and have an absurdly long battery life plus the music quality is hands down better then the bose, and as good or better then the beats depending on the type of music you like. as far as the beats noise cancelling i believe its considered to be one of the weakest out there and not a reason to by the beats, its more like an added feature on them so don't buy the beats if good noise cancelling is at the top of your list. i would suggest the sony's and if those somehow don't do it for you try the bose.

Although both are really nice headphones I'd have to say that the Sony MDR 1000x have a nicer sound and better noise cancelling abilities. Seeing that you can get the Sony headphones for $349.99 when on sale, you'd be crazy not to go for the Sony.

You will be disappointed unless you like paying 60% marketing fees for a designer "b" on your ear pieces. The Bose are good and really excel at noise cancelling. The Sony's are a step up from the Bose. Noise cancelling is good and the sound is much better than the Bose. Do yourself a favor and skip the Beats. Bose are a good choice, Sony is a better choice. Up to you!
