It is active 3d. I was able to get the $20 Samsung glasses to work with it
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This TV uses ACTIVE. There are two active glass technologies, IR (infrared) and RF (radio frequency). This TV uses RF glasses. I bought the Samsung SSG-5150GB/ZA and they work, and are relatively inexpensive. However, these glasses flicker more than some Sony glasses I've used, and they are not rechargeable. FWIW, I wouldn't buy this TV if you're interested in its 3D ability. I own two 3D tv's, and this one is terrible for that. Otherwise, though, it's a great television.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This TV uses active glasses and I believe they work via bluetooth. The supported glasses model is TDG-500A (A=Active, P=Passive). The other model of Sony glasses that has the P at the end instead of the A that are a lot cheaper priced but they will not work with this TV! Each brand of TV uses different communication and control systems to run their 3D glasses so they're not interchangeable, sometimes even from the same TV brand with an older or newer TV model. For cheap 3rd party 3D glasses that might also work with this TV you will need to look for aftermarket brands who claim their glasses work the same as the TDG-500A Active Bluetooth Sony 3D Glasses or search by TV model number. There ought to be other companies who sell cheap ones that may work with this TV and might be 30 bucks but good luck finding any compatible active 3D glasses for 20 bucks. There will likely also be one or two companies who sell far more expensive ones that will probably give much better overall 3D results. Good 3D glasses do make a big difference over cheap ones too. No matter what you decide, you should check their return policies before ordering any 3rd party brands in case they don't really work. When CoD Black Ops was new in 2010 I played it on a PS3 with good 3D glasses on my old 3D 50" DLP HDTV sitting 10 feet back from the screen with the surround sound in 5.1 mode and it was amazing!!! More than once I found myself literally staring down the barrel of an enemy's rifle that looked like it was 6 inches from my face, you could see the inner rifling and the round in the chamber with the sounds of bullets flying past my head in all directions. Seeing a tank turn the corner and spin its' turret around right in front of me as I snuck up to it and suddenly felt the need to duck as its' gun barrel literally seemed to pass right over my head! Being able to hear each direction the different types of gunfire were coming from to locate enemies and avoid friendly fire while being able to see the terrain right there in 3D was awesome! Good luck with your hunt for cheap compatible 3D glasses.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Unfortunatley Active 3D is required which costs $90 per glass
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Active. Any active, Bluetooth (RF) glasses should theoretically work. Passive glasses of course won't work. Active IR glasses won't work either. Look at the Samsung SSG-5150GB/ZA. They are in the under 20 range and work with this TV. Tricky part is pairing since you will not see any confirmation message on TV itself since it is Samsung glasses with Sony TV. But if you play 3D content on TV and enable 3D setting on TV, then pair glasses per instructions that come with Samsung glasses, you should see the 3D image. It worked for me, but I could not find more 3D content to use it with, so I returned the glasses until I buy a 3D Blu Ray player or get 3D HBO Hint: 3D content when viewed without glasses (or glasses off) shows as 2 images.
