Hi jdvanatta, This TV is already upscaling your contents. HD to impressive 4K Ultra HD. No need to force it. Please check the link below for the full specifications of this TV. https://docs.sony.com/release//specs/XBR65X930C_mksp.pdf Thanks, >Joffrey
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. How much upscaling can be done is directly related to the quality of the content being fed to the TV. If you are watching something that is being broadcast in 4k then you will be watching 4k. Everything else will be upscaled automatically to the absolute best resolution possible, considering the quality of the content to begin with, but nothing but 4k will be shown as true 4k. Direct TV has some programming in 1080 but most is broadcast in a lower resolution, so going up to 1080 is probably the best resolution you are going to get whether you are watching Direct TV on a 4k TV or not.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is always up scaling. Sonys X1 chip actually updates itself with signals that it compares your input to. DirecTv only outputs 1080i or broadcast tv and will output 1080p on some movies. Just remember not everything is going to look 4K clear. All the TVs out there are trying to take your signal and replicate 4K. Only a 4K input is going to be true 4K. Why do you think they only have 4K plying in the stores. So you think everything will look that good. Sony is leading the way in up scaling. No doubt.
