Yes. I just returned a newly bought one thinking it was defective. Now that I have a different set I see it’s not a defect. These sets are just built like that. I’m going to return this one as well. It’s just too dark. I’m very disappointed.

You lose more shadow detail because the panel is not meant for that increase in overall peak brightness. You guys excel at Shadow Detail for sure. but if you do what a certain company (HINT: begins with a P and ends with a C" did and add more heat sinks or the metal plate inside to dissipate the heat better, you can increase the overall peak brightness and increasing "the canvas" so to speak to increase the peak brightness and adding even more shadow detail leaving less tone-mapping to be done. If you guys at Sony were to marry your processing of Shadow detail with Increase in peak brightness like that company that do NOT sell their Oleds here in the U.S., you guys would be UNSTOPPABLE. But as of right now, that company that starts with a P, are the ones truly demonstrating "the creators intent." These TVs, yes, more detail than LG Oleds, but...the screens have no "Life" and "Pop" as friends on AVS forums and people I know personally who bought the TV. I'm hoping you guys pull that off in 2021 with the next Master Series. Until then, the "creator's intent" slogan is just a gimmick while that one company I will not say out of respect, made it a reality.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Can be over come with good Dolby Vision Picture settings to give my Sony Z9D terrific HDR PQ . Black frame insertion (BFI) is, to put it simply, inserting full-screen black images between the original frames of a source. It is controlled on the Z9D via the (Clearness) Slider . Pro-Tip ( Make sure the Clearness is set to (0) minimum . This will turn off BFI and really help with Dolby Vision Motion Clearness : (Minimum.) (0) SDR/HDR/DV . If picture looks to (Dark) check to see if Clearness is set to 1 .2 .3.4.5 max. (Lowering Clearness number) will (brighten) picture . To change "Clearness" put "motionflow to "Custom" then you may manually adjust the "Clearness setting" Example: (Dolby Vision defaut) "Clearness" is set to # (2) I found this to be to (Dark) I manually adjusted to Minimum (0) to greatly brighten the image:) . This may be done manually for all Z9D settings if desired to make image brighter or darker.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Alex, we regret to hear that it hasn't performed as expected. Dolby Vision contents are rendered in a dark studio environment and we are required to show them as the creator intended. These steps may help improve the picture quality: Set your TV to Dolby Vision Bright. -On the supplied remote, press the Settings button. -Under Picture mode, select Dolby Vision Bright. Hope this helps, Ralph
