Hi rlb, thanks for your question. The XR65X90L has a display type of Full Array LED and a backlight dimming type of Local Dimming. With local Dimming, the TV can display more accurate colors and finer details. It makes the picture quality appear more vibrant and realistic. See a vivid, crisp picture while you watch and game, all enhanced by Full Array LED and powered by the intelligent Cognitive Processor XR. Hear sound straight from the screen, perfectly matching the action. Cognitive Processor XR™ turns any sound immersive with more precise sound position. Our minimalist One Slate design fuses screen and bezel into a single slate, minimizing noise and maximizing your viewing experience. Seamless Edge, available for the first time in this class of BRAVIA™, gives the TV an extremely slim, sophisticated look. Hope this helps. ~Earl

Local dimming is very important for reducing blooming where you need high intensity brightness right next to pitch black areas on the screen. In theory and practice, the more dimming zones you have, the less blooming you'll notice. If you follow this theory to its end, you wind up with Mini-LED TV's which do great job of reducing blooming to very low levels as long as the Mini-LED dimming algorithms and processing horsepower are there to do it. Unfortunately, that is not always the case in 2023 but it is coming.
