  • Questionwhat is the difference between Sony - G 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Standard Zoom Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras and Sony - E PZ 18-105mm f/4.0 G OSS Power Zoom Lens for Select Sony E-Mount Cameras - Black ? as a beginner they look same except 24 and 18

    Asked by sunny.

    • Answer I own the E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS lens. It is a crop-sensor lens. I believe the 24-105mm lens is for full sensor cameras. Another difference is the designation PZ indicates that the lens uses a Pull Zoom switch on the side of the lens that increased or decreases the zoom smoothly using a built in electronic motor. This ability to zoom at a constant and smooth rate was my reason for choosing this lens. It also maintains a relatively stable center of balance and doesn't externally extend when on a gimbal. On the Ronin SC the Focus Pull wheel controls the Zoom Pull feature of this lens. The negatives of this lens are that it is big and heavy enough that balancing the gimbal is difficult with this lens on my a6300 and changing focus is slow, too slow for sport shooting and sometimes is a problem when shooting fast moving wild life. I also have the 18-135 mm lens that lacks the Pull Zoom feature, it has a manual mechanical zoom mechanism and it is far better if changing focus quickly. As I primarily shoot video this is not important to me and as such I will be selling my 18-135mm lens. If you have a full sensor camera you will probably want the 24-105 lens. If you have an a6X00 camera (cropped sensor) and are shooting mostly still shots, I would recommend the 18-135mm lens. If you are using a a6X00 camera for video, I recommend the PZ 18-105 for video. The PZ 16-50mm kit lens is easier to balance on a gimbal and is better suited for vlogging, but has lesser quality and obviously doesn't compare in zoom range.

  • QuestionI have a 6000 SEL55-210 Lense takes some really clear pictures the bad thing is that you have to go across the room to take a picture. And lense SELP16-50 is good for up close but the picture quality is Bad. My Q: Is the E PZ 18-105mm good for up close?

    Asked by Rudy.

    • Answer Hi Rudy, yes. If you need to take a close up shot from a distance, the E PZ 18-105mm will do the job. We also recommend the SEL35F14Z if we're really talking about close distances. The SEL35F14Z will have minimal restrictions, however, it will not affect the quality of your shot (http://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/accessories/compatibility.php?area=gb&lang=en&mdl=SEL35F14Z&cat=3). Additionally, please keep in mind that these lenses are not macro lenses. Regards, -Mark

  • QuestionIs the lens compatible with A6700 without limitation?

    Asked by Wilson.

    • Answer Hi Wilson, Sony commitment to customer satisfaction is our top priority. You can use the SELP18105G lens with the ILCE6700 camera with the following limitations. The Lens Comp.: Distortion setting will be set to "Auto", lens firmware Ver. 02 or later is needed to be able to change the operating direction of the zooming ring, and noise may be visible when the sensitivity is high. We suggest changing the ISO sensitivity and/or ISO AUTO upper limit. For any questions or concerns, you can reach us at 239-245-6360.   Regards, Larry 7-27-2024 Sony Social Support

    Asked by Tony.

    • Answer Yes it will work, however the camera will switch to crop mode. This lens is made for crop sensors so if you try to use it in full frame mode, you will have some big dark areas in all 4 corners.

  • QuestionHi, Is this lense automatic motorized power zoom lense or manual standard lens? Im confused : it says it's manual and power zoom lense. Which one is true?

    Asked by mihae.

    • Answer It's a power zoom -- it focuses and zooms internally with motors. This is perfect for gimbal video shooting as you won't have to re-balance when changing focal lengths.
