The previous answer is incorrect. This charging dock does not use the USB-C port. It uses the charging contacts on the bottom of the controller. It's not spring loaded, the controller just sits on there. But it does not in any way use USB-C and will not damage your controller.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, they have to be seated on the exposed USB-C port. Which worries me a bit, it could easily damage them. (bends, chips/scratches at the controller USB-C port, etc..) I have the PowerA PS4 charging station (added in the recommended as a reference) that has the spring loaded, snap-down feature. I'll probably wait for something similar to be released.
