I had the same problem in the beginning. Mine is hooked up to Sony a80l. I reset it again and set it up again and it finally worked. Now it works fine with the TV. I do keep the remote speakers on high though.

Please allow us to help you and turn this into a better experience. Since a Subwoofer is designed to play bass sounds, when you play an audio source that has fewer low frequencies, the sound from the Subwoofer can be harder to hear. To make sure the Subwoofer outputs sound properly, try playing an audio source that will make it easy to confirm the bass sound, such as a movie. In addition to setting the night mode to off, there are few things that you can check moreover. Please refer to the following troubleshooting steps: • Press SW volume + or BASS + on the remote control of a compatible model to increase the subwoofer volume. • If the input sources contain very little bass sound components (i.e., a TV broadcast), the sound from the subwoofer may be difficult to hear. You can check the subwoofer sound by emitting the test tone. Check the following: • HT-S2000: Using the Sony | Home Entertainment Connect app, select Settings → Sound Settings → Speaker position and volume level settings → Volume level, then adjust the Subwoofer volume level. • HT-A7000/A5000 and A3000 only: Make sure the Sound Field Optimization is complete. To start the optimization, select Home → Setup → Advanced Settings → Speaker Settings → Sound Field Optimization, and then follow the on-screen instructions. Note: For details, refer to the Help Guide. A separate article is available if the sound from the Subwoofer is too low on our Sony Support website. If you need our assistance, please contact us. Unfortunately, due to the current Amazon phishing protocol for your protection, we cannot provide a link, direct email or phone number for customer support as of now.
