“I have a Sony STR-DH800 Surround Sound receiver / system. Will it work with with the X800 player? I tried to hook the HDMI 1 to the TV and the HDMI 2 to the receiver, but I don't get any sound through the surround system.”

You have to connect the player to the bar and the bar to the TV via HDMI ARC. Make sure to turn off all equipment

I have a Pioneer SVX-52 and it would not work for me that way either, however, if I go hdmi directly to the tv and hdmi from the tv out to the receiver (muting the tv) I get fabulous surround sound.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have a similar set up in my game room. You could just hook up your Surround Sound receiver/system to the TV using an optical cord if you have one. That may help you out if your TV has an optical port.
