It all depends on whether or not your TV supports BT connectivity. This will be either through the TV itself having a BT radio in it or being able to recognize a BT transmitter being plugged into the USB port. The manual should be able to tell you this.

Most TVs have bluetooth built in, but it only acts as a receiver, allowing you to use bluetooth devices with the TV (like keyboards, I believe). But a bluetooth transmitter is the only way to allow the TV to transmit signals out to the headphones. You just plug the transmitter into the TV, pair your headphones with the transmitter, and the sound is sent to the headphones. This is how I listen to the TV at night wearing my Sonys -- which sound great -- and turning the volume on the TV all the way to 0 (and controlling the volume of what I'm hearing with the headphones' volume control). You can get bluetooth transmitters at Best Buy and Amazon. I hope this helps.

The good news is, the transmitters often take 3.5mm or optic so you get options for sound quality and you don't tie up a Soundbar Output If you have one. This is the same scenario for almost every headset in the XM3 class. If you weren't expecting an adapter, you might want to check out Sony's TV headphones which come with an adapter and are considerably cheaper.
