“Do the new Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones have any kind of waterproofing? If I take a long walk on a hot summer day, is my perspiration going to damage the headphones? Will I be able to use them in a 30-minute session on my elliptical machine? Thanks.”

There's no official water resistance. A little bit of sweat should be fine, but I definitely wouldn't workout or wear them during any sweaty activity. They aren't activewear headphones. I only use them for work, watching movies, listening to music, etc.

I would recommend looking at some Beats for some waterproof over the ear headphones, but they will not sound nearly as good.
