You can can I get to USB power and record. at 4K 30 frames a second it will record about an hour before thermal protect kicks in if you have thermal protection set to low. At 60 frames it's about 24 minutes. This is with the screen folded open. If you drop it to 1080p mine recorded indefinitely without shutting down while plugged into USB.

You have to have the battery in, although it wont charge the battery while usb power cable is used. Sony recommends a charge adapter or battery pack that can output 1.5 amps although ive used one that was 0.7 amps and it works fine. There is no record limit on 4k, but like the others have mentioned, there may be heat issues although i havent experienced this. There is an option in the menu to override thermal shutoff to a higher degree though. The only reason the camera will power off is with sleep mode enabled.
