I’m not quite sure, but on my regular switch I played it with the joycons attached so I assume you can play it fine on a switch lite. If I remember correctly, you don’t need the toy ship connected to play.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The game can be played on the switch lite. Only thing is, you won't be able to use the joy con attachments which isn't required for the game. One can always link a pair of joycons with the switch lite and play with those as well if you really wan't to use the figures that come with the game.

Please try again later.You can play the game completely digitally, however, if you want to use the physical stuff, you need detachable joy-cons connected so that you can place them into the grip to communicate with the game. (Again though, you can do everything the physical stuff can digitally with the cartridge that comes with the starter pack.)

So only thing you need joycons is too put the toys in the game. Ether way if you buy the digital ship, and not toys then yes you can play it without joycons.
