- Answer Most Night Owl wired system use BNC connectors to the cameras. The power cable section is the same in the newer Night Owl, Lorex, Zmodo, Q-See and Swann systems.

QuestionIs this loop recording or user have to manually format after hard drive is full? Can the setup work without internet?

- Answer By default the system will loop record you can change it if not wanted. And as far as I know setup will work with out internet. I record continuesly since I’m still trying to figure out my motion and pit sensitivity, I can record for roughly 6 days before it overwrites itself.

- Answer The cameras that come in the system are video only, however the DVR can record audio, you could add on cameras that also have a microphone on the other 4 channels.

- Answer This model's DVR has the capability of recording sound as well as picture, but the cameras that come with them do not pick up sound. You can buy cameras that have a microphone built into them and add them to this system.

QuestionCan I buy longer BNC cables to use with this system? Is there a limit on the length of the cables without reducing picture quality? i.e. could I buy 4 150' long cables to use with this system? Thanks

- Answer The unit comes with a 60 ft cable for each camera and if you buy the 100 ft extension cables they can link together with the couplers that come with the 100 ft cable. I have done this on a couple cameras and had no degradation of the signal.

- Answer The Swann PRO-5MPMSB bullet camera or the PRO-5MPMSD dome cameras are recommended. You can use a camera with less megapixels, but it will be quite grainy if you use a less quality camera. A higher quality camera, such as a 4k camera will only give you the same quality of picture, as that is set by the DVRs video.

QuestionWhat is the purpose of a TV during installation? Will a computer work just as well as a TV during setup?

- Answer Yes a computer works fine. The android app is junk. You have to keep setting the cameras up. It streams fine in subsream but once you use mainstream it starts getting choppy. The whole system is good other than the android app.

- Answer The DVR-4980 uses BNC coaxial cables you are not able to use CAT5/CAT6 cables for this unit.

Questionare these cameras in color ? i know the night vision is black in white, but is the regular daytime use in color?

- Answer The cameras work in full 5MP color during the day, and a night they switch to thermal imaging with black and white picture when there is not enough light.

- Answer The cameras can see a car at 100 ft., but reading a license plate depends on the angle, light reflection, how clean the license plate is, if they have a cover over it and a numerous amount of other details. Cameras used by the police, such as those to capture a car running a red light are typically 12MP and up and flash a bright light to capture plates.

- Answer No, this camera is directly connected to the DVR via cable and does not require internet. However, for remote viewing/access, you must connect the DVR to the internet.

- Answer Hey, I have only been using this system for 2 weeks but this does not work wires. This is a wired system and need to be linked to the network with an Ethernet cable. And then all the cameras need to be connected with wires.

- Answer Yes, the DVR has 4 audio inputs on the back. You are able to connect up to 4 mics for the DVR. Keep in mind these are sold seperately.

- Answer Yes. The lag was pretty bad 1-3 seconds. Someone had enough time to drive up, smash my car window, and grab a bag. Unfortunately I found a beta update that addressed most of the lag issues after my car was broken into. https://support.swann.com/2018-firmware-updates-Ska5PM0xm This seemed to have lessened the lag to about 1 second or less.

- Answer No microphone. There are other systems that offer voice. This one does not.

- Answer It comes with 4 cameras and the 60' BNC/Power connector for all 4 cameras. If you add more cameras (up to 4 more for a total of 8) you would need to buy another set of cables for each additional camera.
