• Well, the tv stand might fit on the cabinet but the tv screen would, of course, extend well past the cabinet. As long as you feel there is no risk that someone might bump into the screen and knock the tv off the cabinet, then you should be ok. The cabinet is certainly strong enough and stable enough to hold the weight of a 55 inch tv.

• I don't know why it wouldn't work. My TV is a 40" and it works just fine.
