If your home family video files were rendered as a DVD with Video TS and Audio TS folders it will play them. If your dvd disc just used as video file storage it depends on the video file type as the player software does not have the codecs to recognize some compressed video files. Interesting that unlike other DVD players I have had this one has a full size USB port and AV video/audio inputs and a "phone" port that I haven't bothered with yet.
